from the
President May 2004 -- By Jill Gallagher Have you noticed that when you sit in the kids pen, time stands still? I can go out for just a few minutes, to watch my goatee kids and before I know it, I am late for this, I didn't do that, but on a whole, I feel much better. Those kids are good therapy. They don't care about time. They love to jump on me and play king of the mountain, I am the mountain, and nibble on my shoe laces. Time just doesn't exist. Have you noticed this? I bet more then a few of you have lost some hours while sitting in the kids pen. And to think, some people pay big money to see a therapist to feel as good as I do after spending time in the goat kid pen. So, what about that last newsletter, the first one by our new editor, Theresa Esterline? Hey great Theresa, I liked it and it showed that you had fun doing it. Everyone, please send your letters to editor or remember to write those membership profiles and get them to Theresa. Remember Theresa puts together what you send her, and a newsletter can only be as great as its contents. We all like hearing what others are doing or trying, this is how we learn and grow. Theresa has some great ideas for articles and stories and she would love to hear from you! Your board has recently made a change. Pat Copa has decided to resign from the board and also as the secretary. She will be missed. The secretary job is one of our bigger volunteer positions and it can take many hours to do a good job. Pat did a good job and really cared about the job she did. I know that we aren't losing Pat as a PBA member, just on the board. I feel certain, however, she will continue to support PBA in many other ways. Thank you for your work Pat. We have a new board member. Tonya DeMarco will be finishing Pat's term on the Board. Tonya was the fourth highest vote receiver in the last board election. The board decided that we would look to that election to find a replacement for Pat. Tonya was and is willing to do the job and we are all excited to get a Colorado member on the board. Thank you Tonya. In June we will have our elections of new officers. Officers are selected from those on the board and hold their office for two years. I plan on not running for another term. I feel we have had much accomplished since I have been Chair. One of the things I am most proud of was starting the on-line e-mail board meetings. Before that we never had a meeting with the complete board. We would write letters or phone each other, but we never had the format we have now. We have undergone a number of changes since the start of these e-mail meetings. The hardest part of these meetings is interpretation of another person's ideas as expressed in an e-mail letter. Without looking at a person in the eye, it can be confusing as to the intent of a person's written meaning. People have been misunderstood many times and many times people's feeling's have be hurt. However we have persevered. I am very proud of this board and the last board for the progress we have made under this new technology of holding a meeting and getting things done. We also have more membership participation then we have ever had. Through these meetings we know more about what the membership wants and can work with those wants in a faster manor. We have more committees and committee members then ever volunteering. You should be happy to know that PBA has some very talented volunteers! But don't use that as a excuse for not getting evolved yourself. Even the best volunteer can get burned out in time, and that is why we are all in this together. If we want to see the Pygora get the recognition it deserves, we all need to participate as a committee chair, committee member, show organizer, or taking your Pygoras to an event and educating the public about this wonderful goat! I am confidant that the next Chair will build that I started, as I used what was done before me to build and expand on. PBA will continue to benefit from all our hard work. I look forward to working with our new Chair who ever that might be, as we have some great leaders on this board. Anyway, I think this may be my last message from the Chair to you all, I am looking forward to spending more time on my other committees with PBA. Thank you for all your support and I hope to see you someday somewhere spreading the word about the PYGORA! Jill pbajill@hhollow.com
