Message from the President August 2002 -- By Jill Gallagher We just finished another great PBA Board Meeting. The new board members started their terms in June, but this was their first meeting as the board. Of these board members, we elected new officers. Before I say more, I would like to thank the board member whoes terme ended, and that is Darlene Chambers. Darlene has done great work with PBA on and off the board. I would like to personally thank her for all her input at making PBA the best we can be and getting better! And if I know Darlene, she will not retire, just put on another hat, and we will still see great things from her. thank you Darlene! The board has elected new officers and implemented an office for the first time. Our Bylaws have always stated that we can have a vice chair, we just never did. But we have one now! Susan Prechtl has been elected as this person. Her job will be helping the Chair, running the board meetings if the Chair is not able, and overseeing PBA committee Chairs. We are very excited to have this new position. Susan has also elected to Chair a committee to revamp our Bylaws. Our next new officer is Pat Copa as Secretary. Pat will be bringing a lot of enthusiasm and new ideas to this job and her position on the Board. we welcome Pat and Susan. I would like to thank Inga Gozales, as our outgoing Secretary for all she has done. If you have ever been on our cc list for the board meetings, you would see that we have over 200 e-mails going back and forth. Inga has to keep track of them and try to put them into some sort of order without a template to work from. She has worked through three different formats and finally got it down to one that works pretty well. Along with the other secretary duties she did for us, she did the job great, and I thank her much. We won't be losing Inga, however, she still has a year left on her term of which I am glad for her continuing help and input. Our Treasurer is going to be our own wonderful Fran Bishop. Fran has been doing this job for quite a while and I thank her greatly. She will also be sending out the membership packets. The board has decided to change the PO Box to her address for a year to see if we can stop checks from the membership from traveling around the planet again and again. So things should get done quicker for you all. So that leaves the whip cracker, Chris Utterback. Ha ha, no not really. Chris is the board member that keeps us on our toes. She doesn't really have the name of the whip cracker, but she does do it well. Thanks Chris for keeping us moving! Please read the board minutes in this newsletter as it has information that can effect how procedures are done. So, the PO Box that was going to Inga is now being forwarded to Fran. But, send it directly to Fran to speed your mail along. Be sure and tell your goat buyers of this change also and make the changes in the membership book on the forms as well. Speaking of the membership book, Janet Hanus did another fine job on this. Thank you Janet. It is a great body of work, of which I use daily and can't get along without. I have been using the Online Herd book and it is wonderful! I can instantly find out how many goats I have registered and how many are pre-registered. I can check on the prodigy of an animal or a farm name or member. Fran is also going to put the champion wins on the goat information as well, which will be another great feature. Don't forget it is there, and it is easily bought for a onetime fee of $50 and then $20 yearly. Hey, we have a PBA Show Secretary! Please may I announce Janice Becker has kindly stepped up to this job! We have not had a Show Se. for quite awhile, so she will be busy recording the shows. from January 2002, they have not been recorded officially, so she is going to be busy updating us. thank you Janice! So please, if you have a show, you can write to Janice directly to save time. Another change is on the registrations. the board has passed a motion to extend the pre-registration certificate to 1 year before it expires. There are also some other changes, again, please read the minutes and the registrar's report in this newsletter. Ok, before I take up too much more of this newsletter, I must say, that the board and officers are here for you, the membership. We look forward to hearing from you so please write, e-mail or phone. Have a great end of the summer! Jill Gallagher pbajill@hhollow.com Next
